Hi. I've joined fairly recently, and honestly I'm glad I found that LJ has a Dog_lovers community because I swear I lived on Cat_Lovers this past summer and still do!

My name is Aubrey, I live in Syracuse NY and happen to work for a microchip company in the recovery center, do animal rescue in my spare time via transports (when I have the extra cash, which is usually after the holidays and winter when there are less people willing to drive anyway!) and blah blah, yeah, my life is ever-revolving around furry critters. I have 2 cats of my own, Yakasa and Ifrit, and I'm kinda "baby-sitting" my sister's 17 year old cat, Baber, whom is slowly withering away of cancer, as my sister can't have him at her apartment.. Yep, it's official, I'm never playing poker for free again, at least not at the local furmeets. First hand of the game I get A-A, the blinds are 2/4 and I make it 25 to play from the button. I get two callers, and get sucked out on by the person calling with a 10-2. I mean, the flop looked totally innocent. Who the hell would stay in with garbage like that? Oh right.

People would call with anything. They'd call with complete garbage and over and over again hit miracle river cards, or get runner-runner cards for a straight or full house. I remember the hand I finally got knocked out on, I was the big blind and the flop was all garbage, but I knew for certain that it didn't hit the other guy and I had a pair of 4s, so I pushed and he called. He had nothing at all, but he called anyway. He didn't even have high nothing - not even A-K, A-Q, A-J. Nope. He had absolutely nothing. The turn gave me two pair, but it also opened up a straight draw for him. And go fig, the river completed his straight. He ended up knocking everyone else out too, no matter what cards he had, no matter how bad the odds of him winning were. My mate pushed all in against him with A-8. The flop was great for my mate, but running cards on the turn and river gave the other guy trips.

I know the other players at the furmeet weren't trying to offend me, but I couldn't help feeling that way. Whether there's money involved or not, I play seriously, because I'm very competitive at anything I decide to do. Then to see everyone else just treating it like some joke and playing anything and everything. I think the biggest slap in the face is that the cards were conspiring against me. For someone to win like 7 hands in a row, playing with whatever garbage they're dealt - those are some pretty sick odds. I'm getting my revenge - I'm going to burn this deck. And I'm not just saying that. I'm going to take this deck, put it into a metal can, and light it on fire. Infact, I'm setting a date for this. Next Friday, at about 7pm in the evening, I will burn this deck.

*clears his throat*

But anywho, to reiterate - I'm not playing poker from the furmeet anymore. Not unless the right people are there and everyone buys in for at least a couple of bucks.

I made a post concerning Jace aka Brian Harp, I made a mistake which I want to clarify, I made a rash decision and accused him on not finishing art, he might have done it in the past but come to think of it 8-9 months is not that much of a long time, I'm sure several other artists have been in the same situation

I had communication issues with Jace, I believe he can change and was promised art completion by December, if he can deliver by that date, I think he's worthy of another opportunity. I don't wish to stir up things any longer and I hope those with a grudge can forgive him like I did, from all this I learned that with communication anything can be worked out

I'm sure plenty of Furries here watch Dragoneer in some way or another, so they already got a warning about this.

Also also: She is THISCLOSE to talking. When I say "Heeeeey!" with a bunch of fluctuations in my voice, she responds "AaaaaaAAAAAhhh!" She's got the basic idea down, just not the actual sounds. I'm pretty chuffed, though, as we've only had her a month and a half.

TL;DR:
My fiancée Nica and I commissioned badges from Buttz / Astral/ Exodite back at AnthroCon 09 in early July.
For a while, Buttz was not seen online and said to be having financial and internet troubles.
Got in contact with him and had several conversations about him sending out the badges.

Current situation:

Two weeks ago, he said he sent them out first class, and therefore could not get tracking as he had promised. (This was said to Nica).
I told him that neither Nica nor I had received our badges last and this week.
Buttz said if they had not come in on the 25th, to tell him and he'd issue a refund and send the hi-res scans.
He told me he was worried because he had sent them priority.
I kept asking for the hi-res scans before the fact, so I could have a better look while I waited.
He never did e-mail me the hi-res scans, not even today. No refund was issued on the 25th when I told him.

He did, however, say he was going to send printed versions in the mail via priority on the 27th. (Today, Friday).

We're right up front, so we get alot of the traffic that comes through the store. I was in front of the table, running around with Kenai and talking with people. This girl sees us and goes 'OOOHH pretty!' and runs up. She's petting Kenai and talking to us and the eventual conversation goes like this;

her; OH HE'S SO PRETTY. : D

me; Yes he is! :) He's a four year old alaskan malamute

her; I WANT ONE LIKE HIM! : D

me; Well, he's up for adoption at the dog shelter and we have applications and...

her; NO, I WANT ONE WITH MORE WOLF IN 'EM! : D


I get that wolf dogs can be good dogs if you train them right and have the right environment for them. There are those owners, and then there are the 'OMG I WANT A WOLF. BECAUSE THEIR COOL.'

I strongly get the feeling the girl was the former and wanted to look 'cool.' ><;

We all were like 'uh. right.'



My SPO moment of the day; Larry is this yellow lab neutered male. But you wouldn't know he was altered because he has gone to town TWICE on my leg. Only me too.
Yesterday it was in the runs and one of the girls nearly died laughing (it happened when I was getting up so I nearly fell on the bugger) and then today it happened in one of the x-pens at the outreach. I'd been sitting with him in there, petting him, and he gets up, wraps him self around my leg and starts humping. In front of EVERYONE. So I did the SPO move and popped him on the butt and went 'NO. BAD BAD BAD DOG.' and jumped out. But in the process he wrapped himself around my OTHER leg. Maybe he just likes me?

Needless to say, I stuck with Kenai the rest of the outreach.

Last week, me and one of my friends were talking about how we were glad to only have three days of school this week, having off for Thanksgiving, and the day after. In this middle of the conversation, she stops by saying,

"Wait, why do we have off Thursday? I'm pretty sure Thanksgiving falls on a Friday this year."

*facepalm*

my roommate took me friday morning to the vet with hunee so i could get her cremated. i got an urn with her birthday and death day on it, and a little cocker spaniel figurine. pretty much the same urn i got for walter, except his had a little shar pei on top.

i got her for my 13th birthday. i'm 24 now. although she was deaf, had one eye, had epilepsy, had hip dysplasia, and recently got many teeth and a cyst removed, she was happy and her bloodwork came back really healthy for an older dog.

it's just so weird that she dropped dead, but i didn't get the necropsy because i know i did nothing wrong and it's possible her heart just stopped. because it looked like she was asleep. there was no look of pain on her face.

walter had cancer, and i had a few months to prepare myself for his death. i put him to sleep when he started acting sick. it was still the hardest thing i've ever had to go through. i don't know how to react to this because it was so sudden. i feel like i'm still in shock.

when he died i got a tattoo of a doodle of him i used to always draw. i think for her i might get "dogs aren't our whole lives, but they make our lives whole" on my other arm.

here's a picture of the two of them a few years ago. it's the only one i have of them together, i think.
